When young people gather with a shared purpose, transformation happens. The Africa Scout Youth Forum 2025, held in Madagascar, was more than just a meeting, it was a defining moment for youth leadership on the continent. It brought together brilliant, passionate, and determined Scouts from across Africa, all united by a single mission: to strengthen Scouting and amplify the voice of young people in shaping Africa’s future.

The Power of Youth Leadership

From the opening keynote on “Youth Leadership: Empowering Youth to Lead and Serve”, one thing became clear: youth are not the leaders of tomorrow we are leaders today. Sessions on Personal Branding and Policy & Resolution Writing gave us the tools to sharpen our voices, not just for representation, but for real influence in decision-making processes.

Building Peace, Equality, and Sustainability

Day two was a powerful reminder of the responsibility we carry as young leaders. The keynote on “Living Together for Peace” emphasized how Scouting must be a bridge between generations, cultures, and nations.

We were inspired by UNICEF’s powerful presentations on Youth for Girls, Partnerships for Youth Leadership, and Young Leaders for Peace. These sessions reminded us that empowering girls, fostering collaboration, and raising young peacebuilders are not optional, they are essential for a just and inclusive Africa.

Our Scouts for SDGs sessions allowed us to dive into issues of Health, Education, Environment, and Peacebuilding. We emerged with ideas that can directly impact our communities while advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The day closed with an eye-opening Townhall on Digital Transformation and Emerging Trends, proving that for Scouting to stay relevant, we must embrace technology as a tool for empowerment, connection, and innovation.

Advocacy and Representation: A New Era

The final day focused on “New Advocacy and Youth Representation: Moving from Representation to Policy-Based, Evidence-Driven Advocacy.” This session challenged us to go beyond symbolic positions and instead root youth leadership in facts, research, and action.

Then came the elections for Youth Advisors to the Africa Scout Committee, a moment filled with anticipation and hope. While I was not elected, I stand proud of the vision I shared, the conversations I sparked, and the incredible support I received from my peers and leaders across the continent.

I extend my congratulations to the newly elected Youth Advisors. They carry our collective dreams, and I believe they will serve with courage and passion.

My Commitment Beyond the Forum

The Africa Scout Youth Forum was not just about elections, it was about impact, collaboration, and legacy. It reaffirmed my commitment to work tirelessly towards:

  • Empowering young people to lead with confidence
  • Promoting education and digital literacy across Africa
  • Raising awareness on mental health and wellbeing
  • Driving climate action and sustainable solutions
  • Strengthening peace and intergenerational dialogue

Gratitude and Hope

I am deeply grateful to the Scouts Association of Zimbabwe, the Africa Scout Region, my mentors, and every fellow young leader who shared this journey with me. Together, we proved that when youth unite, incredible things happen.

The Forum may have ended, but its impact is just beginning. We are the heartbeat of Scouting in Africa. We are the changemakers. And we will keep working until every young person has the chance to thrive.

The future of Africa is bright, because its young people are ready.
